Much of the financial advice people hear is repeated so often that it can go unquestioned: buy term and invest the difference, pay cash for everything, or simply invest for the long run.
The Infinite Banking Concept starts by examining those assumptions. R. Nelson Nash believed that one of the biggest obstacles to understanding the concept was not the insurance policy itself, but the way people had been taught to think about money. He encouraged people to ask different questions: Who controls my capital? What happens to my money when I pay cash? How much does financing cost me over a lifetime? And could I structure my finances differently?
Rethinking doesn’t mean rejecting every piece of traditional financial advice. Different strategies can make sense for different people and circumstances. It means understanding how a strategy works, what assumptions it makes, what tradeoffs it involves, and whether it aligns with your family’s goals.
The goal isn’t to follow a different set of rules simply because they’re different. It’s to understand the rules well enough to make intentional decisions about your money.
