For many families, the decision to share health care costs through Medi-Share doesn’t end at 65. Medi-Share 65+ is a health care sharing program designed for members who are enrolled in Medicare.
Medicare Parts A and B cover a significant portion of health care costs, but they leave some expenses for the beneficiary, including deductibles and coinsurance. Many people address these costs with a Medicare Supplement plan. Medi-Share 65+ offers a different approach, allowing members to share eligible medical expenses that Medicare does not cover, subject to the program’s guidelines.
Members generally must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B and meet Medi-Share’s eligibility requirements, including its statement of faith and health care sharing guidelines. Prescription drug coverage through Medicare Part D is separate.
Because Medi-Share 65+ is a health care sharing program, not health insurance, it works differently from a Medicare Supplement plan. Sharing is subject to program guidelines and is not the same as an insurance company’s contractual obligation to pay claims. Understanding how each option handles costs, providers, eligibility, and member responsibilities is important before making a decision.
If you are approaching 65 or are already enrolled in Medicare, it can be helpful to look at both approaches side by side. The right fit depends on your health care needs, budget, eligibility, and personal convictions.
