Long-Term Care

Protect what you’ve spent a lifetime building

Long-term care can become one of the most significant expenses in retirement, and Medicare and health insurance generally do not cover ongoing custodial care. We help you plan for the possibility of needing extended care so you can protect your retirement savings, your family, and the legacy you’ve worked to build. The earlier you plan, the more options you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does long-term care include?
Long-term care is help with everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, using the bathroom, and moving around. Care may be provided in your home, in an assisted living setting, or in a nursing facility, depending on your needs.
Doesn’t Medicare cover long-term care?
Medicare generally does not cover ongoing custodial long-term care. It may cover certain short-term skilled nursing or rehabilitation services when specific conditions are met, but it is not designed to pay for extended custodial care. Without other coverage or a dedicated plan, long-term care expenses may need to be paid from personal savings or other family resources.
What are my options for paying for long-term care?
There are several ways to prepare for potential long-term care costs. Options may include traditional long-term care insurance, life insurance policies with long-term care benefits or riders, certain annuity-based solutions, or self-funding with personal assets. Each approach works differently, and we can help you compare the options based on your goals, health, and financial situation.
When should I start planning for long-term care?
Earlier planning can give you more options. Premiums and eligibility for long-term care coverage are generally based on factors such as your age and health when you apply, and changes in health can affect your ability to qualify. Many people begin exploring their options in their 50s or early 60s, before a need for care arises.
